Consumer Water Reports 2009

 

In October 2008 Connection Research conducted a major quantitative survey of Australian consumers, asking them about their water usage and consumption patterns. The survey results were published as Domestic Water Usage in Australia 2009, and as five separate smaller reports examining different aspects of domestic water usage.

The Report Series 

    

Domestic Water Usage – Washing Clothes and Washing Dishes analyses sources of water for washing dishes and clothes, brand preferences of washing machines and dishwashers, and average age and preferred type of washing machines. Separate sections look at households’ water sources and conservation methods when washing clothes and dishes.


Domestic Water Usage - Policy and Awareness analyses Australian consumers’ attitudes towards climate change and water conservation, their knowledge of and participation in water rebate schemes and WELS, their awareness of and attitudes towards water pricing, and their willingness to use recycled and
desalinated water for a number of purposes.

Domestic Water Usage - Rainwater Tanks and Garden Watering
analyses water sources for watering the garden, watering equipment usage and brand preferences, local water restrictions and attitudes towards them, and methods for conserving water in the garden. Purchasing intentions of rainwater tanks is examined as well as size and usage of rainwater tanks determined.

Domestic Water Usage - Drinking Water
examines sources of drinking water and the reasons consumers
might drink bottled or tank water. It also contains the top 10 most preferred brands of bottled water.

Domestic Water Usage – Water Usage in the Bathroom
examines sources of bathing and toilet flushing water, and the variety of water conservation methods in the bathroom and the toilet. The report also looks at the type and age of water heaters and at the usage rates of single and dual flush toilets.
